AZ Senator Kyrsten Sinema Defends Filibuster: It ‘Protects the Democracy of Our Nation’

During a tour of U.S. border facilities in Arizona with Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) on Tuesday, Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) defended the filibuster, which Democrats bemoan is threatening to hobble President Joe Biden’s agenda. Sixty votes are required to begin and end debate on most pieces of legislation in the Senate, which is currently split 50-50 between Democrats and Republicans. In the event of any ties, Vice President Kamala Harris casts the deciding vote.

Here’s the thing about Kyrsten Sinema: she’s not your typical politician in any way, shape or form. She’s her own person and she’s definitely not the type that’s going to cave to the Twitter mob on any issue, much less whether or not you like her or not because she really doesn’t care.
