Former President Trump Releases Statement Bashing Mitch McConnell

Former President Donald Trump attacked Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in a lengthy, fiery statement days after the end of the impeachment trial. McConnell voted to acquit Trump but made a point of saying in his speech that day Trump was morally responsible for the riots at the Capitol building, even bringing up the possibility of Trump being charged down the line. “The Republican Party can never again be respected or strong with political ‘leaders’ like Sen. Mitch McConnell at its helm,” Trump says in the statement.

First of all, Mitch McConnell just won his race for re-election by like 20 points, so he’s not going away anytime soon. Secondly, remember it was Trump who pushed for those $2K checks right before the election and McConnell didn’t back him. Could Trump’s argument here be that the GOP needs to get rid of Mitch because he cost Republicans the Senate or is his ire directed at him because of that speech Mitch gave on the Senate floor the other day, basically blaming Trump for the Capitol riots Jan. 6 even tho McConnell didn’t vote to convict? Either way, Mitch is getting it from all directions these days.
